AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
Membership of Encompass Australia is open to all people who are interested in the products and technologies of Hewlett-Packard. This includes continued interest in the enterprise products and technologies previously produced by Digital Equipment Corporation (also known as "DEC" and "Digital"), and Compaq Computer.
Encompass aims are:
- To promote communication between members and with HP
- To encourage recognition of customer interests and feedback within HP
- To encourage symbiosis and mutual benefit between HP and its customers

Encompass INTERESTS
In view of the changes happening within and outside HP, Encompass members' interests change accordingly, and Encompass readily acknowledges and is ready to respond to these changes. Encompass is interested in all HP products, not just the (so-called) legacy Digital products, including:
- OS's HP/UX, Tru64, Linux, OpenVMS, NSK, Win NT & 2K & XP (and whatever's next!)
- Powerplants Intel, StrongARM, Alpha, Superdome, Himalaya, even VAX!
- Platforms Galaxy, servers, desktops, laptops, even handhelds!
- Ancilliary StorageWorks, networks, distributed service management, etc
- Software Design and programming, webdev, graphics, process control, etc
- Coalface Managing networks, email and file services, intranet and Internet, etc
- Executive Decision support, solutions provision, futures, etc

MEMBERSHIP OPERATION
Membership in Encompass Australia is free. It is valid from 1 January to 31 December of one calendar year. If you join during a year, your membership is valid from the date of approval only.
For audit purposes and according to the Act under which Encompass operates, membership needs to be renewed annually. All applications and renewals are subject to Board approval. Only people with a current membership may vote for, nominate for, or continue to hold leadership positions in the Association.

MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION
We are currently developing a fully online membership application form in the very near future. Meanwhile, to apply for membership to Encompass Australia, use the following procedure:
- Download or view the Encompass Australia Membership Application form (PDF format)
- Print the form.
- Fill in the details.
- Send the form to the Encompass office by postal mail or fax.
- Upon approval of membership, you will be notified by email and your membership number will be provided.

MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL
In a change of management policy beginning 2004, existing members will no longer need to reapply for membership at the beginning of each calendar year. Instead, existing memberships from the previous year will be automatically renewed for the following year, subject to the usual Board review process.
To cancel membership at any time, the member must notify the office in writing to this effect (email is also acceptable).
A broadcast message to this effect will have been sent to all members in March 2004.

RENEWING "OLD DECUS" MEMBERSHIP
(holders of old DECUS membership cards and numbers)
The "old D.E.C.U.S.", Digital Equipment Corporation Users Society, an unincorporated society, ceased to exist in 1995. At that time, DECUS Australia Incorporated was incorporated as a new legal entity, and membership became annual by subscription. The old D.E.C.U.S. membership numbers and details were carried over unchanged from the society to the new association. Therefore, subsequent failure to apply for or renew annual membership in the association led to automatic loss of membership and thus the old membership number.
DECUS Australia Incorporated was renamed to Encompass Australia Incorporated in July 2003, but it remained the same legal entity. No changes to membership were required as a result.
However the current Encompass Leadership accepts and encourages the many previous D.E.C.U.S., DECUS and Encompass members who are returning to our association, and who want to continue to use their old society membership numbers and cards due to sentimental attachment.
Such people wishing to become association members should submit an Individual Membership Application as normal, and also supply their old membership number and clearly indicate that they wish to use this number and card.
These applications will follow the normal application and approval process.
